Our non-profit culinary organization is driven by a powerful mission: to create a positive impact in our community through the transformative power of food. We focus our efforts on five key areas: disabilities, mental health, individuals at risk or experiencing homelessness, veterans, and social inequities
Give, Laugh, Que!
Our core belief is that food has the remarkable ability to bring people together, nourish their spirits, and ignite positive change. By harnessing the culinary arts, we strive to empower individuals within these marginalized groups, providing them with invaluable opportunities for growth and transformation.
GIVE:
We are guided by the firm belief that everyone deserves equal opportunities to thrive. We understand the unique challenges faced by individuals with disabilities, mental health concerns, those at risk or experiencing homelessness, veterans, and those affected by social inequities. Our mission is to equip them with the essential tools, skills, and support necessary to overcome obstacles and build a brighter future.
LAUGH:
Through our culinary programs, we foster inclusivity, dignity, and self-sufficiency. We offer comprehensive training, engaging workshops, and educational resources that enable individuals to develop culinary skills, unleash their creativity, and cultivate confidence. By doing so, we empower them to pursue fulfilling careers, explore their passions, and actively contribute to their communities. All while having fun and creating normally and comradire.
QUE!:
Our ultimate goal is to foster a more equitable and compassionate society. By leveraging the power of culinary arts through fire and flame, we create transformative experiences that foster a profound sense of belonging and positively impact the lives of those we serve. We work hand in hand with our community partners and dedicated supporters, united in our commitment to making a lasting difference and ushering in a brighter future for all through the bond of BBQ.
Kathy and Tom Trainor, founders of Inclusive BBQ Events, recognized the importance of returning BBQ to its roots and supporting the local community. To align with their mission, they made a significant shift in focus towards community impact, prevention, mental health, and addressing social inequities. For the past 15 years, BBQ had always centered around gathering around the flames to support those in need. Tom and Kathy competed in BBQ for nearly 15 years and cherished charity-based events.
However, with a notable decline in BBQ contests in 2020, they took action by organizing events that emphasized family, giving back, promoting Kids Q, and addressing mental health and social issues. Since the establishment of Inclusive BBQ Events in 2020, they have witnessed a consistent rise in participation from teams in the New England and Mid-Atlantic regions.
One of their core values is giving back during each contest, as BBQ truly loves to support others. Their events revolve around the idea of learning through cooking, making a difference through food, and showing support for those who ignite the fire within them. Their slogan, "Give, Laugh 'Que!" encapsulates the essence of their events.

Kathy and Tom recognized something extraordinary within the realm of BBQ, particularly in relation to mental health and disabilities. As a family with two neurodivergent children, they intimately understand the challenges that can arise. However, they also discovered an unparalleled level of inclusivity within the BBQ community and at contests, where their sons always felt embraced and accepted.
Kids Q became a transformative experience for John and Pat Trainor, offering them valuable opportunities for learning and growth, particularly in the domains of communication, social skills, and more. Recognizing the significant impact on mental health and the unique needs of individuals with disabilities, Kathy and Tom are driven by the conviction that every child, regardless of their abilities, should have access to such enriching experiences.
To fulfill this commitment, they have set a long-term goal: "Kids Q Every Q," ensuring that a Kids Q component is incorporated into every single one of their events, regardless of whether there is one team or many. By prioritizing Kids Q with a focus on mental health and disabilities, they strive to create a space where all children can engage, learn, and flourish. In doing so, they foster an environment of inclusivity and growth within the BBQ community, addressing the specific needs of those dealing with mental health challenges and disabilities.
Kathy and Tom Trainor established Inclusive BBQ Events with the belief that BBQ is a community that embraces and welcomes all. To celebrate and acknowledge individuals who exemplify inclusivity, we present the Inclusivity Award each season. This award recognizes those who have gone the extra mile in making teams feel accepted and valued at our events.
At Inclusive BBQ Events, our primary goal is to foster a warm and inviting atmosphere for everyone involved. We strive to create a family-friendly environment where people from all walks of life can come together and enjoy the spirit of BBQ. The Inclusivity Award serves as a testament to the importance we place on inclusivity within the BBQ community.
During each contest, the Inclusivity Award is presented to an individual or team that exemplifies the true essence of inclusivity in BBQ. This award honors those who demonstrate exceptional efforts in promoting an inclusive and welcoming environment for all participants.
